Osteopathic Manual Therapy

Osteopathy is a holistic, hands-on manual therapy that focuses on the relationship between the body’s structure (bones, muscles, joints, fascia) and its function to treat the whole person. By using techniques to improve mobility and circulation, it supports the body's innate ability to self-heal, commonly treating back pain, neck pain, and sports injuries.

Key Aspects of Osteopathy

  • Holistic Approach: Rather than focusing only on symptoms, osteopaths identify the root cause of pain, considering how different body systems interrelate.

  • Manual Techniques: Treatments include stretching, massage, and gentle mobilization techniques to increase joint mobility and reduce muscle tension.

  • Goal of Treatment:

To remove structural restrictions that hinder the body's natural, self-regulating healing processes.

  • Conditions Treated: Common issues addressed include arthritis, back/neck pain, headaches, sciatica, and repetitive strain injuries.

Osteopathic Manual Therapy Initial Treatment

An initial osteopathic treatment in Ontario is a comprehensive, hands-on session typically lasting 60 minutes, designed to evaluate your body as a whole rather than just focusing on specific symptoms. Registered Manual Osteopaths (OMPs) in Ontario focus on the relationship between structure (bones, muscles, fascia) and function (nerve supply, circulation) to aid the body’s natural healing process.

Osteopathic Follow Up Treatment

Follow-up osteopathic treatments in Ontario are generally focused on assessing how your body has responded to the initial session and making further adjustments to support healing . These sessions, often scheduled 1–2 weeks apart, are typically shorter than the initial visit (roughly 30 minutes) and involve hands-on techniques to improve mobility and reduce pain.
